Steve Wright Reads the News

There have been a couple of comments regarding Steve Wright reading the news during his show, invariably only a few minutes after it has already been read and frequently including some commentary from him about the news he’s reading.

It occurred to me why this might be.

If you were producing the show, and only had Steve Wright and his brain-dead cronies to use for the show – how else would you fill the time? Get him to repeat what other people have already said.

Steve Wright - David Brent of the airwaves?

Is it me, or is the desperate almost painful desire to be thought of as funny (as Steve Wright does) remenicient of David Brent (of The Office).

Now, I love The Office and think it is hugely funny, but then David Brent is a caracature, where as the same pathetic traits mirrored by Steve Wright don't quite have the same impact.

Enough is enough - go home steve and if you can't find a suitable replacement then just leave the airwaves silent - it would be better.

For the first time EVER, Steve Wright said something right...

I know, I know, surely I must be mistaken – can there ever have been a time in his whole career that we could credit Steve Wright with having said something that makes sense?

Let’s face it, this blog and its comments are dedicated to the fact that actually he NEVER says anything that on any scale of measurement can attributed as being “right” – until now!

During his interview with Sean Lock (I do feel for actually funny and talented people having to be interviewed by SW for PR purposes) anyway, during his interview, Sean Lock interrupted (to our whole hearted relief) only to be told by Steve Wright “hang on, this is about me – not you”.

Okay, so he [Steve Wright] was trying to be funny, but the reality of what he said can not be ignored – his show is never, ever, ever about anything else except him, his ego and his desperate need to be thought of as funny.

Hmm, that gives me an idea for another post – but that’ll have to wait :-)

Steve Wright and the art of Music selection

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while now, and some recent comments have galvanised me into action.

Just what is it with Steve Wright and the music he plays? I’m not sure quite how these things are decided or selected but I have this picture in my head where each week all the day time jocks on Radio 2 get together to choose who gets to play what songs – only the problem is, Steve Wright is too busy laughing at his own jokes and bigging himself up to TPT (Toss Pot Tim) and the Veggie, to understand what’s going on.

Consequently he is left with the musical equivalent of that gunge you scrape off your shoes, that you never quite know if it was just crap of someone’s old chewing gum they spat out, but either way you wished you hadn’t stepped in it. This is pretty much how I feel each time I listen to most of the songs He plays.

Interestingly I had the unfortunate occasion of working completely through the night on Monday with nothing but Radio 2 to listen to, and without question all the shows I heard where better hosted, had a much better rapport with the listener and had better music selections.

This only serves to prove to me that everyone at Radio 2 thinks his show is complete tripe too, which is why he gets all the ‘golden oldies’ that no-one since Jimmy Saville have wanted to play.

Ask Elvis

Why is it that Ask Elvis appears to be quite so funny?

Because it is an oasis in the middle of a what is otherwise a dreary, dreary show
